This Saccharine Cartography series is sort of an off-shoot of the Pseudopods series. It was inspired by some of the same ideas as the Pseudopods, but I've come to think of the Cartography paintings more as environs or stages that could host the sort of interactions suggested by the Pseudopod works. These works allow me to take the idea as a starting point and use it as a means to play very directly and spontaneously with paint. The process here is quicker and involves less conscious problem solving than much of the rest of my work. It has the potential to be very meditative and is sometimes a nice way to recharge between working on the other stuff.
